Abstract

Purpose :The objective of this study was to evaluate shear bond strength of seventh generation dentin adhesive system (i-bond).

Materials and Methods : Specimens were obtained from 48 extracted human molars. Twelve dentin specimens were randomly assigned to each of 4 different adhesive systems (Prime & bond NT; One up bond; Prompt L-pop; I-bond). The occulusal surfaces of molars were grounded flat to expose dentin surface and 4 different bonding systems were applied according to the manufacturer¡¯s instructions. The plastic molds were placed on the bonded surface, and composite resin (Z250) were added on that surface and light irradiated for 40 sec. The resin-bonded teeth were stored in water (37¡É) for 24 hours, and these specimens were tested in a shear mode at a cross-head speed of 1.0mm/min using an Instron testing machine. The data for each groups were subjected to an Tukey multiple comparisons test (p=0.05).

Results : i-bond exhibited significantly lower bond strength (7.41 ¡¾ 1.39 MPa) than Prime & bond NT (19.69 ¡¾ 5.05 MPa) and One up bond(10.84 ¡¾ 2.91 MPa)(p<0.05). Prompt L-pop (10.38 ¡¾ 2.02 MPa) and i-bond were not significantly different(p>0.05).
Fracture surface of i-bond indicated adhesive fracture. One up bond and Prompt L-pop indicated adhesive/cohesive complex fracture, and Prime & bond NT indicated cohesive fracture.
